Snack Attack and Mourning Glory will be lacing up their roller skates on Saturday night at the Duluth Heritage Center for the Harbor City Roller Derby 2026 season opener.
"It's a bunch of really awesome people strapping or tying wheels to their feet and then beating the crap out of each other - and loving every minute of it," says Mourning Glory, a roller derby ref. If you've seen roller derby before, you're probably nodding your head in agreement.
Smells Like Derby Spirit is the headline for Harbor City Roller Derby's season opener this Saturday night. The event will lean into the early 90s vibe of Nirvana and all the faded flannel and ripped jeans that come with it. Harbor City will be facing off against Windchill from Minnesota Roller Derby out of St. Paul.
Doors for the festivities open at 5pm and the action starts at 6pm. "We encourage people to come closer to the beginning when the doors open," says Snack Attack. "They can watch the teams warming up and we have other activities and things happening that people can do while they hang out." More information about the event and Harbor City Roller Derby can be found on the HCRD website.
You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning.
