"It's a different kind of job, but I love it more than anything," says Liza Williamson, a doula with Everyday Miracles, an organization working to increase maternity care in the rural reaches of Northern Minnesota.
An upcoming doula training (May 15-18) in Duluth is looking to address the "Maternity Desert" that exists in the Northland. Although there are many medical resources in the Twin Ports, many in the farther reaches of this part of the state don't have as easy access to specialty needs. "A baby don't wait for nobody," says Williamson who also notes that some people live several hours from a facility specifically equipped to bring a baby into the world.
In the effort to increase maternity care in the area, Everyday Miracles is offering a doula training. If you're interested in signing up for the training, more information can be found online. More information about Everyday Miracles can be found on their website.
You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning.
