In twenty-five years of paint, Jonathan Thunder has created many visually striking works. Now, Thunder is setting aside the paintbrushes, but not before one final solo exhibit. Friction is now on display at the Zeitgeist Atrium in downtown Duluth. Thunder is moving on from painting, but not from art. His new film Ish Meets a Mermaid and other collaborative efforts are indication enough that we'll be seeing plenty of new artwork from Thunder in the future.
Another local name of note, Tara Austin continues her exploration of contemporary rosemaling, patterns, and botanical themes. Boreal Ornament VI can be seen through the end of the month at LUMstudio in downtown Duluth. "I think what I find lovely about Austin's work is the incredible detail and incredible control over that she has over the brush," says Annie Dugan. "There's also this fluidity and this natural, wild way about it."
Additionally, on Thursday, March 26th at 5:30pm is a gathering for Art Night Out at the Duluth Art Institute in celebration of the work on display by Carl Gawboy and Wendy Savage. Plus, tonight at Spirit of the Lake Community Arts (SOLCA) is a class about Ukrainian-style eggs. The class is currently listed as sold out, but you can add your name to the waitlist on the SOLCA website.
You can hear Where's Art every Monday morning at 8:20 on Northland Morning.
