Author Cassandra Medcalf will be at the Duluth Public Library tonight to help guide aspiring audiobook creators. The event takes place from 6-7pm in the Library's Green Room.
For Medcalf, the transition into recording audiobooks was fairly natural, considering her background. "I was like the super-level of theater kid," says Medcalf. "Multiple hours a week I was rehearsing, practicing doing multiple characters, popping between them, so when I did find out about audiobook narration - after getting a degree in audio production - it just made perfect sense."
A creative approach to the actual presentation of a book is as required as a technical knowledge of the equipment that you're using. Medcalf also has advice for newcomers when it comes to that part of the journey. "A lot of people when they start this, they have a pretty significant investment up front. It's a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars, so you want to make sure that you're not buying the wrong thing."
