If you're looking for an easy way into exploring your own creativity, it's not too late to latch on to the global art movement that is Inktober.
"Inktober is a phenomenon that started in 2009 by the artist Jake Parker," says Annie Dugan. "Each day has a particular prompt." With the supplied prompt, artists create something with ink or pencil. Onion, Skeletal, Lesson, Vacant, and Award are the prompts for October 27-31. Artists are free to share their work via social media with the hashtag #inktober2025.
And if putting pen to paper isn't your thing, you can use the same prompt for creating a costume. "To me [Halloween] is this celebration of people creating things," says Dugan. "We are fashioning ourselves into other things... how do you make an onion costume? How do you make a costume that says vacant?"
Looking past Halloween, on November 1st at Siiviis Gallery, there is a pop-up with jewelry artist Pamela Clifton from 1-3pm followed by the opening of Vintage Northern Treasures from 4-6pm. Inspired by the island of misfit toys from the holiday classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, the exhibit features work from local artists who have reimagined classic toys through a northern lens.
You can hear Where's Art every Monday morning at 8:20 on Northland Morning.
