The recent opening of Minnesota Veterinary Neurology marks a first. Until now, Minnesota was without a veterinary hospital that focused solely on pet neurology.
"Veterinary medicine has really started to change, honestly, since COVID," says Dr. Missy Carpentier, founder of Minnesota Veterinary Neurology. "[Pet owners] just recognized how important their pets were... we saw a huge upswing in owners looking for more specialized care for their pets."
The new facility is fully outfitted with an MRI and an underwater treadmill for rehabilitating patients. "Just like when you go to hospital... we're very similar," says Carpentier who notes that they also do in-house blood work and x-rays.
Some signs to watch for regarding neurological issues are seizures, trouble walking, and head tilting. "If they have head tilts," says Carpentier of telling signs. "They may not want to lower their head to their food dish."
