Glensheen Mansion in Duluth is celebrating ten years of free Concerts on the Pier with a "best of" season of music.
The summer of 2025 will feature artists from past years that played to some of the largest crowds ever gathered on the shoreline and in the water. For the past decade musicians have played on the 100-foot pier to audiences in lawn chairs and on beach blankets, as well as those in canoes, kayaks and inner tubes.
And sometimes the spectacle goes beyond the music. One of the pseudo traditions of the concerts is for the artists to take a plunge into the water after completing their set. "If they're playing on the pier, they're jumping in," says Mike Mayou, Marketing Direction at Glensheen, who estimates that about 75% of all artists jump in after the show.
Concerts on the Pier begins this Wednesday, July 2nd with performances by Black River Revue and Dan Israel. More information is available on the Glensheen website.
You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning. This edition of Community Connection is made possible in part by Lakewalk Surgery Center.
