The past will be on full display on Wednesday night at the West Theatre in Duluth. The Duluth Armory: A Living History is a fundraiser for the Duluth Armory as efforts continue to bring the storied landmark back to being a functional location for the community.
The evening will consist of local historian Tony Dierckins talking about the past, Co-Executive Director of the Armory Michelle Miller talking about the future of the building, and music from youths who are benefiting from Armory programming.
Though the building is synonymous to most as a music venue, it also served the region as a sports facility, a roller rink, and as a gathering space during tragedy. "1918 we have these two things happen at the same time; the Cloquet fires and the flu pandemic," says Tony Dierckins. "[the Armory] becomes a refugee center, it becomes a place where people donate clothing and money... it's served the community in many different ways."
