Where's Art: From the Opera to the Alley

This week, Annie Dugan spots art from the opera to the alley.

The upcoming productions of Die Fledermaus by Lyric Opera of the North will be the final production involving long-time scenic designer Ann Gumpper. Since 2011, Gumpper has brought her talents to the opera stage. "Ann Gumpper uses color, shape, line, texture, all of those things to tell amazing stories," says Dugan.

For six years, The Back Alley Surf Shop, located at 2409 W Superior Street in Duluth, has been providing events, coffee, and style to the area. "They have new clothing designs that they are putting out in order to raise money to keep open for the summertime," says Dugan. "The kind of voice that these folks have is really unique and special... it just sort of exudes cool."

And Candace LaCosse is shifting away from brick and mortar. After some time in a physical location Hemlock Leatherworks will now be available exclusively online.

You can hear Where's Art every Monday morning at 8:20 on Northland Morning.
