"I always wanted to do stand-up, but I had stage fright," says Funniest Person in the Twin Ports finalist, Dustin Fawcett.
Fawcett's journey to stand-up comedy is an unlikely one, with no previous performance background. Not only that, but he was utterly terrified of being on stage.
What inspired him to finally pursue stand-up was watching other comedians bomb, only to return the next week and do it again. He took the stage for the first time at Dubh Linn Irish Brew Pub.
"I barely remember the first joke I told, kind of blacked out, and I was off the stage." says Fawcett.
Fawcett's forte in stand-up is storytelling. He takes experiences in real life that are funny, making him a relatable figure. And he still gets nervous, but having nerves means you care.
"Once you get that first laugh, it's addicting," he says.
You can see Fawcett and five other competitors at the final round this Saturday at the Caddy Shack. Tickets can be purchased on the Twin Ports Comedy website.
You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning.
