"I think there's something beautiful about the allure of hope. There's a lot of hope in this story," says Minneapolis-based actress Jenny LeDoux who will be playing the lead role in the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical Cinderella, a Duluth Playhouse production opening this Friday at the Norshor Theater. The play is a 2013 rewrite of the original that aims to give the story more depth and realistic characterization.
"We see Cinderella really part of the transformation that's happening in this kingdom," says LeDoux. "She's got a little bit more of this questioning for why it has to be this way." While there are new ideas explored in this version, the tale is visually presented with classic elements and a golden age, storybook style.
Cinderella opens December 6th and runs through December 22nd. Additional performance dates have been added on December 11th and 18th due to high demand. You can get tickets now on the Duluth Playhouse website.
