Two finalists for the Funniest Person in the Twin Ports Contest, Robert Lee and Justin Rademacher, share a similar strategy when it comes to stand-up comedy, and it's as simple as "just keep doing it."
"The very first time [I did stand-up] was back in college," says Rademacher, "I didn't do great... but it was still a lot of fun and it really sparked an interest in me."
After that open-mic night, Rademacher began writing one liner comedy in 2010, and never stopped. Writing comedy evolved into entering competitions in the cities.
"I didn't do very well at the contests, but I just continued to do it," he says.
Robert Lee has a much different background than Rademacher as a twenty-year veteran in theatre and improv comedy.
"I've always wanted to try stand-up but it's daunting. I signed up for this contest so it would make me try it with no ambitions of winning," says Lee.
You can watch Rademacher, Lee, and four other comics in the finals this Saturday, December 14th, at the Caddy Shack in Lincoln Park at 7pm. Tickets can be purchased on the Twin Ports Comedy website.
You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning. This edition of Community Connection is made possible in part by Lakewalk Surgery Center.
