Harold Dols is man of many hats. As a member of the board of directors, an engineer, a conductor and a secretary for the Lake Superior & Mississippi Railroad, Dols has a vast knowledge base of the history of the rails as well as recent improvements and repairs.
"The venerable LS&M Engine # 46, that was acquired in 1984, needed a new set of wheels and a rebuild of its running gear," says Dols about the beloved train. After being shipped off to Pennsylvania for repairs and a long two-year wait, Engine #46 is up and running. The most impactful of the delays stems from the war in Ukraine. Many train wheels are produced in that country.
After a multi-year hiatus, LS&M has returned to running at full-strength. The rails are once again active, and train rides are open to guests through the summer into its most popular season, fall. Visit duluthrivertrains.com for more information.
