Not everyone talks to dolphins. Even fewer try to do so with a sousaphone.
Local musician Troy Rogers took a recent trip to the Florida Keys, set up his sousaphone boat, and anchored it out on a reef. Eventually, after sending out some augmented recordings of dolphin sounds, the dolphins responded. "They were very curious," says Rogers of the dolphins that began vocally responding in close proximity.
You don't need to be in Florida to experience unique and creative aquatic happenings. Sub Superior Underwater Music Festival is happening in the coming week on Lake Superior. Although this year's happenings are still a bit cloaked, last year involved a floating piano performance on a stage that was ultimately - and intentionally - sunk.
Events are subject to change depending on the temperament of the lake. To keep up to date on the schedule, follow the Embassy on Facebook and the Embassy website.
You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning. This edition of Community Connection is made possible in part by Lakewalk Surgery Center.
