Who's Line Is It Anyway? is a classic example of game-style improv. The audience shouts suggestions, and the rules are set-up and torn down in sketches lasting a few moments. Long-form improv is a different story.
Andy Bennett trained with Improv Olympic in Chicago before igniting the improv scene in Duluth. "We loved short-form; we did it for about a decade," says Bennett who is now focusing largely on long-form. Unlike the brief sketches of short-form, long-form improv utilizes one suggestion before going on a 45-minute ride.
Bennett and team will be performing twice in August at the Zeitgeist Arts building in downtown Duluth. Shows on the 12th and 19th start at 8pm. The first half of the show will be built around one suggestion from the audience. The second half incorporates a unique special guest. "We will let ChatGPT write sketches," says Bennett. "We will then read those sketches cold."
You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning.
