With "Music" in its title, all of the visual aspects of the Homegrown Music Festival can sometimes be overlooked. In general, live music has opportunities galore to be a visual spectacle with flashy wardrobe choices and bold stage presence.
During Homegrown, the field guide is always a source of unique local talent. This year's field guide cover was created by Amy Abts. "I think it's really fitting that she was also one of the first performers at Homegrown twenty-five years ago," says Annie Dugan.
Another highlight of the festival is the design of the t-shirts. This year's t-shirt artist is Jillian Dollars who is a local tattoo artist, illustrator, painter and more. "You can see the natural world in her work," says Dugan.
And those who find themselves in downtown Duluth (for Homegrown or otherwise) can stop by the Duluth Art Institute for "Reclaiming", a new exhibit from Alexa Carson. The works focus on the female form and the complicated systems therein.
