Homegrown Live from Studio A: Sophie Hiroko

A young woman is seated on a stool playing guitar and singing into a microphone in a television studio. Behind her is a backdrop that reads Almanac North
Christine Dean for the North 1033

This Duluth musician made her first visit to our studios on May 1, 2025 to give us a preview of her singer/songwriter performance at the Duluth Homegrown Music Festival. Hiroko also had a second Homegrown performance scheduled with her feminist punk band; we talked about the difference between the two projects, about her new single, and plans to record more music. Hiroko joined us on the set of PBS North's Almanac North program, which led to Hiroko sharing the story of appearing on that show as a child.

Coverage of the 2025 Homegrown Music Festival on the North was supported by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund and by Music Go Round.

Christine is The North 103.3's Music Director, a host of Music Through the Day, and the producer of Live from Studio A. One of her favorite things about her job is the opportunity to share music from the Twin Ports’ many talented local artists. In her spare time she takes full of advantage of Duluth’s outdoors opportunities.
