The North 1033's Chris Harwood speaks with American blues harp player Charlie Musselwhite.
Charlie Musselwhite was raised in a musical family, and he gravitated toward the music that surrounded him daily, in Mississippi, as a boy in Memphis, and as a young adult in Chicago. In his early years, he learned from, hung out with and played with many of the greatest names in blues music. He is a multiple Grammy award nominee, and a winner of one -- the 2014 Best Blues Album for Get Up!, a collaboration with Ben Harper.
Including his latest release on Alligator Records, Mississippi Son (2022), Musselwhite has released dozens of albums over the last fifty-five years, collaborated and recorded with many artists, including Bonnie Raitt, Tom Waits, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Elvin Bishop, John Lee Hooker, Hot Tuna, Cyndi Lauper and Cuban guitarist Eliades Ochoa, just to name a few. He will be performing at the 2023 Bayfront Blues Festival in Duluth, as the headliner this Saturday night.
