Ranger Doug: "Riders in the Sky" Play Big Top Chautauqua this Friday

Four men dress as ornate cowboys with hands on hips staring into the distance, a cloudy orange sky behind
Riders in the Sky

Ranger Doug and the other members of Riders in the Sky are nearing their 8,000th show. After 45 years, 41 albums, 2 Grammys and lots of joy, the classic cowboy troupe shows no sign of stopping. “We just love to perform and we’re still capable even though we’re senior citizens these days,” says Ranger Doug. “Our goal is to go on as long as we can, as long as we’re healthy.”

Gene Autry and Roy Rogers are just a couple of the musical inspirations for the four-piece outfit. And speaking of outfits, the aforementioned musicians are also the inspiration in the wardrobe category. “We love the flashy outfits," says Ranger Doug. "We wanted to wear... fancy western stuff that really catches the eye."

You can catch Riders in the Sky at Big Top Chautauqua this Friday, September 9th.

Luke Moravec is the host for Northland Morning on The North 103.3. He’s also a local actor, musician and writer. He loves puzzles, riddles and fun mysteries.
