Duluth's climate future is the focus of the Duluth Citizens Climate Commission which has been meeting monthly since the beginning of 2026. The next step for the group is a climate town hall.

"It's an event - a gathering - where we're inviting the citizens of Duluth to come together," says Tone Lanzillo about the upcoming town hall on Thursday, September 17th from 6-8pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. "We're going to open up with three or four citizens from Duluth sharing their own personal climate stories." The gathering is an opportunity for people to discuss and share their actions as well as their dreams for a greener Duluth. Ultimately, the comments and ideas will be shared with the community at large.

Along with communicating with residents and government officials, the Commission is also aiming to create a strong connection with youths. "We've been talking quite often with the Harbor City International School downtown," says Lanzillo. "They're going to be invited and participating in the town hall." The Commission is also planning on recognizing some groups and individuals, including the students from Harbor City and their teacher Brian Scott.

More events are taking place from September 14-20 as part of Climate Week. Also on the calendar are the Duluth City Council meeting, the Energy Planning Commission, juneberry gathering, and the Green Drinks gathering.

You can hear Green Visions at 8:20am every Wednesday on Northland Morning.
