Backyard Almanac: Wrapping Up Awesome August

If there are any blemishes on August this year, it's the lack of rain. Although we've had some recent showers, it certainly hasn't been adequate. Leaves are falling from trees, but probably more as a reaction to dehydration than the changing season.

On the positive side, the month has been full of tried-and-true nature sightings. Migration is already proving to be a visual spectacle at Hawk Ridge, the wildflowers continue to wow, and there are lots of spider webs worth looking at in the early morning dew - just plan to get soaked if you're walking through the tall grass.

Even though Awesome August is coming to a close, the season of superlatives is just beginning. For Larry Weber, the next two month are also worthy of alliterative titles.

You can hear Backyard Almanac every Friday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.
