According to the National Weather Service, Spring starts on March 1st. If you go by the astronomical calendar, the vernal equinox marks the start of Spring later in March. And if you ask Mother Nature, Spring isn't springing anytime soon.
But before we start wishing away Winter, it's important to note that January and February have started out the year with a new trend: precipitation. Although the amount of snowfall hasn't been particularly noteworthy, the kind of snow we've been getting has contained a lot of precipitation. So far, 2026 is above average in precipitation - a change worth highlighting.
And if you are eager for Spring, keep your eyes on the skies. Canada Geese (which are among the very early migrants) could be heading our way any day now.
