Green Visions: Winter Salt Awareness Week 2026

The origins of the upcoming Winter Salt Week go back to 2021. "It started as Wisconsin Salt Awareness Week," says Megan Högfeldt, Water Resource Specialist for the City of Superior. "It's grown to a nationwide event."

The 2026 Winter Salt Week, from January 26th through January 30th this year, will include a variety of livestream presentations addressing issues and conversations surrounding salt from many angles. Topics will include advocacy and change, engineering solutions, and freshwater salinization.

"There's been some really neat conversations," says Högfeldt. "How can we use [salt] in a better way... more of a calculated thought rather than just dumping it on the sidewalk."

For more information on events and registration, visit the Winter Salt Week website.

You can hear Green Visions at 8:20am every Wednesday on Northland Morning.
