The newly renamed Resource Renew (formerly WLSSD) is once again offering Treecycling opportunities. For those getting rid of Christmas trees for the season, there's a way to make sure it's being appropriately disposed of.
"Trees are a valuable resource," says Dori Decker, Sustainability Specialist with Resource Renew. "After we have a chance to enjoy them over the holidays they can be beneficially reused after we are done with them. All of the Treecycling drop-off locations... reuse the trees in some way."
There are many cited reason for bringing trees to these drop-off locations; the trees will be appropriately composted, the process eliminates any potential invasives that were living in the tree, and if left in other places - like a backyard or the woods - it could become a fire hazard after drying out.
City Park and Community Center drop-off locations are open through January 10th with Resource Renew locations and others open through the end of January. For a complete list of drop-off locations and schedules, visit the Resource Renew website.
You can hear Green Visions at 8:20am every Wednesday on Northland Morning.
