Backyard Almanac: Look Up for Northern Lights and Flying Squirrels

Late autumn brings news of late migrants and late leaf color, but the real news in in the skies.

The Northern Lights have been having a field day as of late. With early sunsets and longer nights, November is an ideal time for spotting aurora. This year's cosmic display is particularly vibrant due to a spike in activity from the sun.

Also worth looking up for; flying squirrels. At night, these critters spring into action and prey on the proffered seeds at local birdfeeders. When the sun goes down, look up!

You can hear Backyard Almanac every Friday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.
