With November upon us, it's time to start watching out for ice. Although the rivers are far from freezing, and lakes are still open, Larry Weber is keeping his eyes on small ponds and especially puddles - they'll be the first indicators that winter has arrived.

Additionally, Larry has his eyes on mammals preparing for winter. Although some are busy, like beavers, in preparation for the long, cold months ahead, other animals, like porcupines, are more present minded, taking the harsh season one day at a time.

You can hear Backyard Almanac every Friday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.

Luke Moravec is the host for Northland Morning on The North 103.3. He’s also a local actor, musician and writer. He loves puzzles, riddles and fun mysteries.
