Lake Superior Harvest Festival

For over thirty years now, the Lake Superior Chapter of the Sustainable Farming Association has hosted the annual Harvest Festival. This year, the free gathering is happening from 10am-4pm on Saturday, September 6th at Bayfront Park in Duluth.

In addition to the robust farmer's market, the event also incorporates an energy fair for festgoers to peruse electric vehicles, solar options, and other green resources. "Ecolibrium3 is our host of the energy fair, and they have all sorts of community resources," says Julie Allen, Harvest Festival Director. Tamarack Water Alliance will also be present to talk about Mining, and Minnesota Power will lead the EV display.

To add to the ecological focus, patrons are encouraged to bike, walk, take public transportation, or carpool to the event. And to boot, the entire event is zero waste. "We require all of our food venders to use BPI certified compostable service ware," says Allen. "They will actually break down into carbon, nitrogen and other elements."

More information about the Lake Superior Harvest Festival can be found on the Sustainable Farming Association website.

You can hear Green Visions at 8:20am every Wednesday on Northland Morning.
