Like the plants themselves, interest in native plants is growing.
For the fifth year in a row, Carlton Soil & Water Conservation District is hosting their Native Plant Kit & Seed Mix Sale - the largest of its kind in the state of Minnesota.
"A lot of native plant suppliers are more located in central Minnesota," says Jenny Sherren, Conservation Technician with Carlton SWCD. However, recent efforts have seen a geographical change in where native plants are readily available. "We are seeing more suppliers come up north."
The sale offers several different kits with a variety of focuses. For those wanting more songbirds in their yard, there's a kit for that. The same goes for buyers interested in butterflies, bees, and even for those who get less sunlight in their yard. Additionally, kits are available for those working on combating buckthorn and for those restoring shoreline.
