With modern whether patterns becoming more unpredictable and ever-changing, this April in the Northland has managed to toe the line and feel like a typical spring month.
Although the month, thus far, has topped out at 63 degrees, the last week of April is being marked by cooler temperatures. Precipitation has also been on the lighter side; however, rain is in the forecast, which should inspire a greener landscape and encourage some early flowers.
Several birds continue their migration back to the Northland, including raptors, waterfowl, and songbirds. Beavers and chipmunks are coming out of the cold and preparing for the warmer months ahead. While they haven't been spotted yet, bats are expected to show themselves within the next few weeks.
For Larry Weber, one of the highlights of this week has been the sighting of insects such as dragonflies and bumblebees. Those insects, as well as the occasional mosquito, signal that spring is here.
