We are a third of the way through a slightly cooler April than usual. A snowstorm, fire warnings, and spring showers have all led to April to being, in the words of our resident expert Larry Weber, "a strange month."
The moon is in its waxing gibbous phase and the days continue to get longer. We are heading for 14 hours of daylight, which will occur next week. Sunsets will continue to get later and later, reaching past 8:00 in the coming days.
It's migration season for the birds. The raptor count continues along West Skyline, with bald eagles, turkey vultures, red-tail hawks, American kestrels, and so many more flying back north for the summer. The bald eagle count has topped 4000 with more to come. Water birds and songbirds continue to make their trek back to the Northland as well, with robins and juncos in abundance.
You can hear Backyard Almanac every Friday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.
