Backyard Almanac: An Early Spring Perspective

Spring has finally sprung in the Northland. March 20 marked the beginning of the season, and as our resident expert Larry Weber says, the temperatures indicate it. However, the March lion always has a way of biting on its way out - the forecast predicts snow later in the month.

In the world of creatures, the annual raptor count at Enger Tower has proven that our avian friends are already arriving in abundance. Bald eagles are especially plentiful, with over 2000 of our national bird spotted in March. Golden eagles have also made a rare appearance, with 120 counted so far.

Other birds making their way back north include Canadian geese, trumpeter swans, mergansers, and sparrows.

You can hear Backyard Almanac every Friday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.
