Backyard Almanac: Even with Warm Days, February was Cold

February was historically cold this year. Excluding the last week, February was roughly 10°F colder than average. And while some might take comfort in the fact that this month has ended on a relatively warm spell, March can swing either way, so don't take the plastic off your windows just yet.

In the world of critters, our expert naturalist Larry Weber believes that bird migration has begun early this year. Larks, buntings, and swans have been spotted in the Northland. The deer and squirrels are still hungry and looking for food, often around the bird feeder. The sleepers are also waking up, with skunks, raccoons, and a bear. Oh My!

You can hear Backyard Almanac every Friday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.
