As the weather starts to warm up in the Northland, many folks are starting to wonder what they can do in February to get their garden ready for spring. "Not a lot," says master gardener Tom Kasper. However, March is where that starting line lies and once we reach it, it's off the races for one particular plant: sweet potatoes.

"They're kind of fun to grow and they're pretty easy to grow," said Kasper.

While raising sweet potatoes might seem easy, it's harder than it first looks. You can't just grab a potato off the shelf of the supermarket and plant it in the ground. There are certain steps you need to take to make sure your spud sprouts. Luckily, Tom is here to walk you through it.

You can hear Tips for Hardy Gardeners every other Tuesday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.
