Since middle school, a group of now-seniors at Duluth East High School have been focused on climate advocacy and making a tangible change in the community. After seven years of dedication, that effort may be coming to fruition.
Climate Club members Mauren, Zoe, Kate, and Amelia, have made meaningful progress on bringing solar power to Duluth schools. Financial support for a large solar project is ready and waiting, and construction could potentially begin this spring - a fine send-off for the group of graduating seniors.
Arriving at this point in the process entailed school board meetings, attending listening sessions, visiting with climate experts and activists, and utilizing elements of the federal Inflation Reduction Act.
Efforts to make Climate Club a group for all high schools in the city are underway, and leadership for the future is being established to ensure a continuation for the visions and goals of the club.
You can hear Green Visions at 8:20am every Wednesday on Northland Morning.
