The past week has brought a big shift in the weather, and that shift has led to a greater presence of ice. Larry Weber has noticed the increase in ice grow daily, first appearing on ponds and swamps, then expanding to lakes.
A light layer of snow (both on the ice and the ground) makes for an opportunity to spot animal tracks. And it seems that some birds made it through the holiday unscathed; turkeys are one of the animals that are showing up in greater frequency and leaving tracks for observant hikers.
You can hear Backyard Almanac every Friday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.
