Sure, leaves are reaching their peak, but so too is migration.

And the best place for viewing migration is hardly contestable. Hawk Ridge offers a perfect vantage for the tens of thousands of birds that regularly pass through the Northland this time of year.

Hawk Ridge is not only wonderfully located, but there are also programs available to interested parties. One program includes some close-up lessons about owls.

More information can be found on the Hawk Ridge website. Additional migration tracking can also be found on their statistics page, and migration and banding history can be found on Trektellen.

You can hear Backyard Almanac every Friday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.

Luke Moravec is the host for Northland Morning on The North 103.3. He’s also a local actor, musician and writer. He loves puzzles, riddles and fun mysteries.
