This Saturday, September 7th, marks the 30th annual Lake Superior Harvest Festival happening from 10am-4pm at Bayfront Park. The event, hosted by the Sustainable Farming Association, aims to encourage ecological actions as well as to host a zero-waste event.
The event began as a large farmer's market and has grown to include many different focuses on ecology and the environment. Part of that focus requires a high level of diligence to ensuring the event does not produce waste. "We require all of our vendors to use bpi certified compostable service ware," says Julie Allen, director for Harvest Fest. "Once everyone is on board, it's really pretty easy."
In addition to the zero-waste philosophy, Harvest Festival also invites patrons to explore electric vehicles. "There'll be a dozen to two dozen electrical vehicles on display," says Allen. In keeping with the low-impact values, festgoers are encouraged to walk, bike, bus or carpool to Bayfront this Saturday.

You can hear Green Visions at 8:20am every Wednesday on Northland Morning.
