December is on track to be one of the warmest ever. Not since the 1800s has Duluth experienced a warmer final month of the year. As far as Christmases go, Duluth did have its warmest ever, plus a Christmas Eve that nearly hit 50 degrees.

With the new year comes perihelion, the time of the year when the Earth travels closest to the sun. Our planet reaches that point on January 2nd.

You can hear Backyard Almanac every Friday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.

Luke Moravec is the host for Northland Morning on The North 103.3. He’s also a local actor, musician and writer. He loves puzzles, riddles and fun mysteries.
