It should not have been surprising, but Emily Ford conducted her part of the interview in a canoe on the Mississippi River between Illinois and Missouri. “I’m helping a buddy,” says Ford. “This is day five for me.” And a five-day trip for Ford might as well be a walk around the block.
In the winter of 2020-2021, Ford hiked the entire length of the Ice Age Trail which meanders from one end of Wisconsin to the next. “The full trail is 1200 miles. I tried to pick up between 15-20 miles a day,” says Ford. “I did that as a through hike.” The entire trip took 69 days, but Ford didn’t take on the task alone. “I had taken a dog for that trip.” Diggins, her husky, was along for the adventure. “[It’s] nice to have a buddy to kind of process what you're going through.”
What adventures are in the works for Ford? This winter, Ford and Diggins will be in Alaska assisting a musher. Next winter, Ford has the entire length of the Appalachian Trail in sight.
