Loading up in the camper and heading out to find nature was how Don Kienholz’s parent lit the flame for his current love of the outdoors and, more specifically, birds.
From then on, it was day trips, weekend overnight trips, and eventually travels across borders. "Once I saw most of the birds in Minnesota, you start looking in other parts of the country; Alaska, Arizona, Texas,” says Kienholz. And the scope continues to expand. He has been to Asia, Africa, and South America, for the purpose of birding.
"Traveling for birding is an amazing way to travel," says Kienholz. "You're in rural areas and really exposed to what it is to be in that space."
Next up? A north to south venture across Chile.
