Backyard Almanac: Plenty, Plenty, Plenty of Color!

"Sensational September" is now over, and naturalist and author Larry Weber notes that, despite what you may think, September was actually 2 degrees warmer than normal.  Not many hot days, but there were also not many chilly days.  But there was also about 1.5 inches more precipitation than usual.

Now, as we head into October, the fall colors are on full display - outstanding amounts of yellow, but reds and oranges are in the mix as well.   Birds are on the move.  Some insects are still out and about, but they are in the process of looking for places to bed down for winter.  With the waning crescent moon, , Clear night skies, should they appear, will allow some great stargazing too.
