On Friday, September 25th at 3pm, Denfeld High School will open up history. A time capsule that was placed in the foundation of the building a century ago will be opened.
"It wasn't until 1926 that we got the current school," says Terry Johnson, Curator with the St. Louis County Historical Society about the most iconic and visible landmark in West Duluth. "There's a lot of traditions and a lot of significant alumni and a lot to celebrate and discuss." The gathering on Friday will include the time capsule opening, plus speakers and attendees including Mayor Reinert and the family of Robert Denfeld.
"We're opening the time capsule that was sealed in 1925 when they laid the cornerstone at Denfeld," says Tom Tusken, Denfeld High School Principal about the time capsule component of the celebration. After opening the capsule, more will be added to it and it will once again be stowed away for the future. "The initial plan is to have that open in 2076."
The event on Friday is open to the public and includes historical presentations, building tours, and plenty of memories from the past century.
