For National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4th, there will be about 50 community gatherings across the city of Duluth "Our city gets really into these neighborhood night outs," says Andrea Crouse, the Community Development Manager with Zeitgeist.
One of these community gatherings is Hillside Night Out happening from 5-7:30pm at the Freedom Farm located at 500 E 10th Street. The gathering will include food, ice cream, music, and free bike tune-ups. "We'll have a skills course, we're going to have bike mechanics on site to do free tune-ups on bicycles," says Crouse. "We might not be able to fix big problems, but we'll definitely tune it up." There will also be a station to practice loading your bike onto a DTA bike rack.
The location of the event also allows for tours of the newly reimagined 6th Avenue East. Community organizers are looking to get feedback about the recent changes in the hopes of gathering thoughts for continued improvements in the future. "We really want to hear from people in the neighborhood," says Crouse. "Long term, we do have more goals for that corridor, as well as 1st Street and other downtown areas."
