For over two decades, comedian Mary Mack has been gathering musicians, comedians and entertainers for variety shows. The next incarnation of the North Star Comedy Hour will take place at Lucius Woods Performing Arts Center in Solon Springs, Wisconsin at 7pm on Saturday, July 18th.
"I call it Prairie Home Company meets Red Green with an edge," says Mary Mack. "And yet it's a clean show." The evening will include sketches and stand-up comedy from Brandi Brown, as well as music from local artist Marlee Paine, Twin Cities-based Americana musician Chastity Brown, and the house band Circle of Heat. "I never leave the stage," says Mack. "I just get so excited... this show has a real flow to it."
Also included in every iteration of the North Star Comedy Hour is a game show - typically with a twist. This time around, the game is a spelling bee, only louder. "If you want to be a contestant, and you're not a good speller, you get points if you can yell your version of the word," says Mack of her latest creation, the Yelling Bee.
The show takes place outdoors at Lucius Woods Performing Arts Center. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair in case built-in seating fills up. Tickets are available at the door for $20 or in advance for $15 via Mary Mack's website.
You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning.
