Community Connection: A Celebration of Aging Carnival

After a career as a musician and dancer, Kelly Brainard settled in Duluth and ultimately became the Community Resource Director at The Duluth Heights Lodge. While working with older individuals, Brainard came up with an idea that eventually became The Golden Ticket: A Celebration of Aging - a county fair-like event happening in Proctor on Friday, July 10th from 9am-3pm.

"I love parties," says Brainard. The goal of the event was to create an event specifically geared toward an older population. The carnival, which takes place on the South St. Louis County Fairgrounds in Proctor, includes educational opportunities as well as plenty of entertainment. A car show, Elvis impersonator, Plinko, and a life-size game of Operation are just a few of the things for visitors to interact with.

The carnival is not limited to older generations. Everyone is welcome to stop by, ask questions, have fun, and learn. "Everybody's living longer," says Brainard. "People are healthier longer, so they're looking forward to a long time being older." More information about the free event can be found online.

You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning.
