This summer, the St. Louis County Historical Society is inviting history buffs and curious minds alike to attend their History in a Pint events on July 16th, July 28th, and August 6th. Each evening will feature a special guest storyteller - and patrons can also purchase a pint at the otherwise free event at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum.
"We want to engage our history fans... people who are just curious about their community," says Wayne Gannaway, Executive Director of the St. Louis County Historical Society. The first presenter of the summer for the History in a Pint event, on Thursday, July 16th beginning at 6pm, is Dr. Thomas Saylor who will be presenting on Duluth in 1976 as the city prepared for the nation's bicentennial celebrations. "Duluth really rose to the top. They were one of the first communities to win a designation as a bicentennial community."
On July 28th, MN Reads alum Darrell Pederson will present starting at 5:30pm. The author of Who Will Carry the Fire? and the Northeastern Minnesota Book Award-winning Campfire in the Basement will share some personal history of missteps and memories. The last event on August 6th, also at 5:30pm, will feature Joel Turnipseed, author of Baghdad Express: A Gulf War Memoir.
All of the events are free and open to the public. More information about History in a Pint can be found on the St. Louis County Historical Society's Facebook page.
You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning.
