There's always art happening all around the Northland, but this week there's a lot in particular going on at UMD. "We have a lot of really exciting things happening on the hill," says Annie Dugan of the upcoming events at the University of Minnesota Duluth.
On Thursday at 6pm, a community lecture titled Place and Community in the Twin Ports will feature two urban planners. "Understanding our visual built environment is certainly a part of visual arts," says Dugan. Ryan Smolar, an eco-civic connector, and Lili Razi, an artist and project manager, will both speak on place and community.
The Annual Student Exhibit takes place this Saturday from 1-3pm. There will be a few speakers and awards will be given. The annual event is juried and includes 76 different works. "They really showcase the range of work coming out of students from UMD," says Dugan. Students also helped with the presentation of printed materials for the event.
On Sunday from 11am-2pm is the Annual Student Art Sale. The event takes place in Kirby Student Center and will feature printmaking, pottery, jewelry, photography, stickers, crochet, and more.
For those venturing off campus, Lizzard's Art Gallery in downtown Duluth has a new exhibition opening. Chromesthesia: The Color of Sound is a group exhibit featuring abstract works. The opening reception takes place this Friday from 4-7pm.
You can hear Where's Art every Monday morning at 8:20 on Northland Morning.
