"It's a really beautiful show and I think it really just shows kind of what life is," says actor and CSS Theatre Club Vice President Sophia Reeves of Will Eno's Middletown, opening at the College of St. Scholastica this Friday, March 20th. "The complexity and the beauty of just being a person. The struggles and the joy and all of these in-between moments that just come with life."

Since the elimination of the theater program in 2024, students have led the way by creating the CSS Theatre Club. Last year's John Proctor is the Villain was successful critically and by box office standards. "It was super successful, we had multiple sold-out shows," says Merete Nelson, president of the club. "That kind of kickstarted this new era of theater at St. Scholastica."

Without departmental support, all aspects of the production stem from the efforts of the students. Reaching out to community members has been vital in getting the show staged, costumed, lit, marketed, etc.

Middletown opens at the CSS Theatre on Friday, March 20th at 7:30pm. Additional evening shows include the 21st, 27th, 28th, and a 2pm matinee will be offered on March 22nd. Tickets can be acquired through the CSS box office. You can follow the CSS Theatre Club on Instagram.

You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning.
