We are canvases for art. When we walk around in public, our choices in how we visually present ourselves can speak volumes. Sometimes that means our clothes, and other times it goes skin deep.
In Superior, Rebel Threads is aiming to highlight clothing as art for everyone. "Rebel Threats is a space for igniting that passion for others," says Annie Dugan. Artist Sasha Howell, the catalyst behind Rebel Threads, has worked as a theater costumer and has put on local fashion shows. "She calls herself a costume alchemist, educator and lifelong fabric nerd."
At the Duluth Folk School, the exhibit Counter/Culture is on display, showcasing the work of 21 separate tattoo artist from the area. Framed images of tattoo back pieces line the wall at the space. "These pieces are really exceptional and sort of show the range of tattoo styles and the influences that each of these artists have had and how they're making those influences into their own voice," says Dugan.
And keep your ears open about AI and its impact on the local theater scene. Visual artist Daniel Benoit is leading the way to create conversations on this subject.
