A Winter Dance Party for the Duluth Armory is happening this Sunday, January 25th at Clyde Iron Works. The annual fundraiser will include a social hour, a silent auction, and plenty of music. Donations from this weekend's event will be added to a recent large gift from an anonymous donor. "The project was almost at the point of being stalled," says Michelle Miller, Interim Executive Director of the Armory. "This $5 million donation kept us on track."
With the gift, the organization has been able to move forward with vital construction projects. Steel beams have been delivered, abatement work is being done, and structural reinforcement is underway. Hard hat tours are available by request.
This year's celebration on Sunday will not only be a fundraiser for the Armory, but also an opportunity to honor local musician Todd Eckhart who died tragically last year. Eckhart had become a staple of the Winter Dance Party by bringing the sounds of the 50s to attendees. "It's not a ticketed event this year," says Miller. "It's a free at-will donation to support both the Todd Eckart family and Armory." The silent auction will feature items like Eckart's performance ties, which he never wore twice.
